| Particle system is coming along nicely. I came in Saturday night to build a few more effects to show off -- some natural, some weird. There are still a few more features that need to be in place before we can really show it off, and the emphasis is on getting those done and moving on to other systems a demo will need. Optimization and feature creep will come later :)
Finished another song.
Learned Saturday morning how to do forward rolls... badly. According to the instructor du jour, I wasn't actually doing them wrong, I just need practice. I found out later in the class that I have an easier time rolling when I'm thrown into one (and more fun too) -- it must be some combination of higher momentum and being motivated not to crash headfirst into the mat. ;)
The knees were feeling pretty abused though -- run around like a kid on a sugar high during the class, hobble around like an old man after class. I decided against going Sunday morning. No two days in a row for a while yet...
...except the sword workshop in a couple weeks. I've decided to go ahead and do that instead of Tawy House. I should be able to do the sword stuff, the D&D session and maybe work on a song all in the same action-packed weekend.
D&D last night was interesting. I hadn't been in one of Mike's games in... almost 3 months? The bad... er, the good guys were one or two steps ahead of us, so what should have been us ambushing them turned out to be them setting up an ambush for us, getting discovered, and discovering that they were discovered. The end result was we a very hard fight against all of them together in their castle keep, instead of taking two or three of them by surprise. We were less than successful, but we did at least mess things up for the bad... um, the good guys. A 10'x10'x10' section of their keep wall no longer exists thanks to a spell my monk dodged, and we managed to kill the Paladin who had the artifact we wanted... unfortunately, after it had already been passed off to one of his fleeing comrades.
So far I've found that my monk is good at drawing fire from spellcasters but not so hot at standing up to serious fighters; as fast as his attacks come, very few of them hit; in no way can he rely on his stunning/unbalancing attacks. They are icing. The cake is the defense from magic and other dangerous circumstances aside from zealots with huge freakin' swords. I might have trained the character differently if I'd realized that from the start, but I'm sure the choices I made will be useful in some cases.
X2 was utterly fantastic. Better than the first X-Men movie I think. Steph has the thread about that, with spoilers.

That particle system sounds really cool. Eagerly waiting to see something showing it off. ;)
I've decided that during the summer months I'm going to get some D&D going in the area I live. A lot of people play, I just want to get involved. I've played small campaigns with friends (that lasted about 4-6 hours), but never really played a campaign that spanned several weeks. Hopefully I can gather some eager adventurers and host a few games as DM. :)
I thought X2 was much better then the first, in my opinion. Introducing new and amazing characters (Nightcrawler is awesome), and developing characters from the last movie... Just fantastic. I really had no expectations going into the theater, and I came out excited about X3.
The little nods toward other famous X-men (like Beast on TV and Gambits name in the mutant files) was cool too. Hopefully the next movie has sentienals and more X-men and more cameo appearances. :)

Whoops, I was caught up in the excitment of the X2 movie and forgot to comment on your new song. ;)
Great song, I love how it starts off sort of tranquil and then launches into a cool little beat. :)
Due to the title, the song kind of makes me think of a boat leaving a dock (when the music is calm), and then when the music starts up it reminds me of the boat visiting amazing new worlds and seeing wonderous new sights and things.
Perfect music for an adventure game or something. Really an excellent song. :)

Aren't monks in general like... Anti-Spellcasters (Granted, you can specialize, but their saves are designed to take spellcasters...) ? Doesn't surprise me if you're not standing up to Fighters there.
