The first three apartments on my list to check out have struck out.

Crestview: no-pet policy.

Cabana West: tiny and ugly apartments -- picture the smallest motel room you've ever been in (Japanese coffin hotels don't count) and then jam an oven, fridge and sink into the middle of it.

Ashwood: very tightly income restricted. Get this: the government recommends you spend less than 30% of your net income on housing, but the way the numbers work out, it subsidizes this landlord for renting to people spending at least 27% of gross income on housing.

Got a few more options. One's in St. Ann near (but not in sight of) the airport, has $510/mo "garden" apartments and $555 townhouses, each with cool floorplans. They advertise "internet access" (is that available, or included?) They dig cats and small dogs. It's not very much farther from the office than we are now.

There are another couple of them in the general area of Lindbergh/Dorsett, ranging from $465-$495 for 1 br or $510-$545 for 2. One is "Cats Allowed" and the other is "Call for Pet Policy". Neither mentions income restrictions.

Sounds promising, unless this is just a really horrible crappy part of town. :)

Here in Orange County, CA internet access just means it is available and not included. I envy those prices. Before I was laid off March of last year by Getaway, errr, Gateway I was planning on venturing out on my own. The lowest was $900/mo for a 800 sqr/ft apartment.

As for as the "call for pet policy" they probably have a deposit for that and have a limit for the size of dogs.

Good luck!

I hear you about those apartment prices. Before we bought our house, we were paying just under $900 for that two bedroom apartment just outside of Chicago, and there's no way that it came even close to being 800 sq ft ;)

In Overland...near Lindberg, there are three level one bedroom apartments (top floor is bedroom and bath, ground floor is family room and kitchen and lower level is basement and laundry). I lived in them for two years. I cheaply carpeted the basement and used it as the family room and used the main floor area for an office. I think they were in the $500 range. I will ask Rob if he remembers the name of them.

Ergh! living in the Bay Area has gotten my brain all confused.

I pay over 1k for a 1 bedroom apt and I've got a good deal *wince*
